What should you know before traveling to Thailand?
Choose the right visa type
Thailand offers tourist visas (30, 60 or 90 days), 5-year long-term visas, and business, student and digital nomad visas (Smart Visa).
Visa extensions and border runs
You can extend your visa by 30 days at an immigration office. Border runs are also available: a short trip abroad (for example, to Laos or Cambodia) to extend your stay.
TDAC digital arrival card
From May 2025, travelers fill in the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) online up to 72 hours before arrival. After you submit the form, you receive a QR code to show at the border.
Visa fees
When you apply for a visa on arrival, a fee of 2,000 baht (~55 USD) applies. E-visas through thaievisa.go.th may cost more or less depending on the visa type.
Length of stay and extensions
A standard visa on arrival is valid for 15 days, and the tourist e-Visa is valid for up to 60 days. You can extend your stay by one more month. Overstaying costs a fine of 500 baht for each day over the limit.
Don't overstay your visa
Thailand fines travelers for every day they overstay: 500 baht per day (up to 20,000 baht).
Plan your departure or extension in advance to avoid fines and a possible entry ban.

Although Olga tried to save my money until the very end 😅, many thanks to her! There are cases where you can't manage without a specialist. I applied for a Vietnam visa myself 2 weeks before my trip. It was returned to me 3 times for 'revision' with no clear explanation. 3 days before departure I made the only right decision and turned to professionals. The visa was done in 2 working days. Very fast and high-quality work, thank you so much! I advise everyone to get in touch, even just to ask a question. They will kindly answer you.

Today I did a visa run to Cambodia with @Bigtravelchat_admin. We were supported at every stage. The hardest part for me and my companions was walking 200 m at the border. The admin was always in touch and solved any issues in real time. I recommend it: minimum stress, and Vietnam for another 45 days!

Everything You Need to Know About a Thailand Visa
🛂 Electronic visa (e-Visa) for Thailand is a convenient and fast way for Russian citizens to enter the country. Everything is done online via the official website thaievisa.go.th. The process usually takes 3–5 working days. You need to fill in the application form, upload a photo and a copy of your passport, and confirm your accommodation booking. After you pay the consular fee, the result is sent to your email.
📅 Visa types and validity
Several visa types are available for Russians:
– tourist e-Visa (up to 60 days, can be extended at an immigration office);
– business visa (Non-B) for work and business matters;
– student visa (ED) for study;
– digital nomad visa (DTV) valid for up to 5 years;
– Thailand Elite visa for long-term stays.
The visa validity starts from the date of entry, not the date of issue.
📋 Required documents
To apply, you will need:
– a foreign passport valid for at least 6 months;
– a photo on a white background;
– return flight tickets;
– proof of accommodation in Thailand (hotel, apartment or invitation).
💡 You can also attach a bank statement, which increases your chances of approval.
⚠️ Common mistakes
– Incorrect passport details are the most common reason for refusal.
– Blurry or unsuitable photos.
– Applying through third-party websites (they may charge hidden fees).
Always apply only through the official e-Visa website.
⏰ Extensions and border runs
A tourist visa can be extended by 30 days at your nearest immigration office.
Border runs are also allowed: leave for a neighbouring country (for example, Laos, Cambodia or Malaysia), then return and get a new period of stay.
👶 Travelling with children
Each child needs a separate e-Visa, even if they are listed in a parent's passport. A photo of the child is also required.
💡 Tip from Big Travel
Print your visa letter and save a PDF on your phone, as airports often ask for a paper copy.
If you want to get your visa without mistakes or queues, message our admin @Big_Travel_Admin. She'll handle the whole process for you.
