Attend a puja ceremony

Attend a puja ceremony

It is during the puja that the temple comes alive with a special energy: drums and bells sound, the scent of incense fills the air, and a focused silence settles over the prayers. Even if you know little about Buddhism, the emotional impact of the ceremony remains very strong and memorable.

Don't rush out after the ritual

Don't rush out after the ritual

When the main part of the ceremony ends, most visitors leave, and the temple becomes noticeably quieter. This is the best time to take a closer look at the details, walk through the inner galleries and feel the atmosphere without the crowds.

We were thrilled with the Heart of Sri Lanka tour! It was a beautifully organized trip. We saw an incredible number of sights and got swept up in the atmosphere of this amazing country. Thank you so much for helping us with the most important moment of our trip: a marriage proposal at the top of Sigiriya. Your help choosing the perfect moment and place among the wonders of the world made this day truly unforgettable. A special mention goes to the night at Mountain Heavens hotel. Waking up, stepping onto the balcony and seeing elephants walking below was wonderful. The best part that made the trip perfect was our guide Yasir, the soul of the trip :) He told us about every sight with great charm. He knows the best angles for photos and anticipated our wishes before we even said them. His care, attentiveness and wonderful sense of humour created a truly friendly and comfortable atmosphere. We felt completely safe, as if we were travelling with an old friend. Thank you to Yasir and the whole team! We will definitely recommend you to our friends!

Sharing our impressions on the way home from the wonderful two-day Heart of Sri Lanka tour! Other reviews have already said everything about the tour itself, so we would like to describe the impressions we got thanks to our guide Yasir and driver Usama. A few words about the road: the car is comfortable and new, the air conditioning saved us the whole way, and despite the winding mountain roads, the driver followed all the traffic rules like a European driver. But we are especially grateful to Yasir. He helped us with every little question along the way. He is very caring and attentive, and when they tried to push something expensive on us, he took us to another place where the same thing was sold for less. At the tea factory, during the tasting, they wanted to give us only one type of tea. Yasir stood up for us, and in the end we got to try all the varieties. On the way, he showed us many inexpensive places where we could get tasty food and fruit. Yasir was also a very interesting person. We talked about the culture of his country and compared it with ours for both days. His English is excellent, he is deeply knowledgeable and a polyglot. He even gets the memes :) To our surprise, Yasir changed up our schedule. At the end of the second day, we had time to visit a village where we were shown traditional village life and customs, and we were treated to traditional food and sweets. We were even allowed to crack a coconut 🥥 And we must mention that Yasir is a professional photographer. The photos you see in this message are his. We are now approaching our villa to rest after such a full and emotional programme. Many thanks to the organizers, Yasir, Usama and the local people of Sri Lanka!

We have just returned from the Galle Fort + River Safari tour! It was wonderful! I recommend it to everyone! Of course, a tour depends a lot on the guide. Ours was beyond praise! His name is MANO. He speaks English excellently, knows the history of Sri Lanka very well, answers all questions, jokes very subtly and at the right moments, and takes professional photos. In short, we are very happy with both the organization of the tour and how it was carried out! A special thank you to the driver too! The tour itself was amazing! 🔥🔥🔥 We liked absolutely everything!!! THANK YOU!

We returned yesterday from a two-day tour with an overnight stay at Elephant Bay hotel and a climb of Sigiriya (choose exactly this rock for the climb). It was AMAZING!!!! WONDERFUL!!! The best tour!!! Our guide Denis (Dinesh) is simply a genius. He entertained us the whole way, told us the history of Sri Lanka, answered all our questions, shared lots of interesting and educational facts, and helped with photos and videos! All the locations on the tour were chosen very carefully, and everything was heartfelt! A special thank you to our driver Shalinda, who drove us safely and with style! Emotions for a year ahead, maybe for a lifetime! Those two days felt like we had travelled for a week through different countries, with different climates, nature and architecture, all in one place on a small island, Sri Lanka.

We are simply thrilled with the Safari Yala + Ella day tour! It was an incredible adventure that left us with a flood of vivid memories. We would especially like to highlight our guide Ishar. He was simply wonderful! Ishar is a true professional. He speaks English fluently and has deep knowledge of the history, culture and nature of Sri Lanka. Thanks to him, the tour was not just a sightseeing trip but an exciting journey into the world of this amazing country. The safari in Yala National Park impressed me the most. Four hours flew by in a moment! We saw a huge number of wild animals: majestic elephants, a leopard (it was truly incredible!), deer, buffalo, monkeys, crocodiles, monitor lizards and many beautiful birds. Ishar and the safari driver skilfully found the most interesting spots and told us about the animals' habits, which made the safari even more exciting. Ravana Falls, Little Adam's Peak, the Nine Arch Bridge, the train ride and the tea plantation were all lovely, but the safari in Yala was the real highlight of the tour. I highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to see the real Sri Lanka and have unforgettable experiences. And be sure to ask for Ishar as your guide (by the way, he is from Belarus)! You won't regret it. Thank you for a wonderful day!

Hello, I had an amazing 3-day tour in Sri Lanka, thanks to our fantastic guide and driver. Our guide, Mr Deshan, was incredibly knowledgeable, kind and caring. He did everything to make sure every part of the trip was enjoyable, informative and perfectly organized. The driver, Mr Jagath, was equally wonderful, always punctual and professional, and made us feel comfortable throughout the journey. Together, they made this trip truly unforgettable. I highly recommend them to anyone visiting Sri Lanka. You'll be in great hands.

Temple of the Tooth in Kandy: The Details That Make Your Visit a Deeper Experience

The Temple of the Tooth is more than one of Sri Lanka's most important shrines. It is a place where the spiritual tradition can be felt almost physically. Here, architecture, rituals and people's behaviour all serve one idea: respect, quiet and inner focus.

🙏 The rhythm of the temple is set by people, not by the clock. You will notice how locals arrive unhurriedly, with flowers and offerings, stop, pray and leave just as calmly. This rhythm gradually passes to the visitor, helping you let go of the rush and tune in to your inner state.

🔔 Sounds matter more than words. The soft chime of bells, footsteps on stone floors, hushed voices and drums during ceremonies create a special acoustic atmosphere, in which you want simply to be, rather than to take photos or talk about it.

🕯 Light plays a special role. The inner halls of the temple are lit softly and dimly — this is no accident. Such light highlights the gold of the statues and the whiteness of the walls and helps you focus on sensations rather than details.

🌸 Offerings are part of a living tradition. The flowers that believers bring are not a decoration, but a symbol of gratitude and respect. Watching this, you start to see the visit differently, as taking part rather than sightseeing.

🚶 Here, the state matters more than the route. In the temple there is no goal to get round everything faster. The strongest impressions come in the pauses, when you simply stand, observe and let the place speak to you without words.

✨ The Temple of the Tooth is valued not for its scale or status, but for a rare sense of inner stillness and respect for the space, which stays with you long after you leave its walls.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy

Is it worth visiting if I am not a Buddhist?

Yes, and a fairly deep one. The temple is not seen as a religious test, but as a place of experience: stillness, rhythm, observation. Many travelers say they felt calm here for the first time, without needing to understand or explain anything.

Why do people bring flowers rather than money or food?

In Buddhist tradition, flowers symbolise impermanence and gratitude. They are beautiful but short-lived, a reminder of the value of the present moment. It is not an offering "in exchange", but a gesture of respect and mindfulness.

Can I just stand aside and do nothing?

Yes, and that is completely fine. The temple does not expect active participation from tourists. Many locals see quiet presence as a form of respect, so you can simply observe without taking part in the rituals.

Why are the rules on clothing so strict at the temple, even for tourists?

Clothing here is not about appearance. It is part of the shared atmosphere of respect. Covered shoulders and knees help create a calm space where no one draws attention to themselves or stands out.

Is it true that the temple looks different at different times of day?

Yes, and this is one of its less obvious effects. In the morning the temple feels calmer and more restrained, during the day it is lively and full of movement, and in the evening it is almost meditative. Many travelers say it feels like three different visits to the same place.

Why is there so much security and so many checks at the temple?

This is linked to the value of the relic and the country's historical experience, not to any tension in the air. Despite the checks, there is a sense of calm inside the temple. Security is seen as protection of the tradition, not as a restriction.

Can I visit the temple with children?

Yes, but it helps to prepare children in advance. This is a place that calls for quiet and patience, so it is best to explain to children that it is not a walk or an entertainment. Many families come with exactly this aim: to show an example of respectful behaviour.
