Whale Watching Route
Key route locations:
- Early transfer from hotel to Mirissa
- Boat departure into the Indian Ocean
- Searching for whales, dolphins and sea animals
- 3–4 hours of watching in open ocean
- Return to Mirissa port
🌅 Early departure to Mirissa
The tour starts early in the morning, when the ocean is usually calmer and you have a better chance of seeing marine life. Your hotel pickup takes you to Mirissa, where the boats leave. Bring light clothing, a hat and sunscreen.
⚓ Preparing for the ocean trip
Before departure, there is a short safety briefing. Participants receive life jackets and learn the basic rules on board. Then the group sets off from the port of Mirissa into the Indian Ocean.
🐋 Whale and dolphin watching
The main part of the tour takes place in open ocean and lasts about 3–4 hours. The crew searches areas where you may spot whales, dolphins and other marine life. Watching happens in the natural environment, so the route may change depending on animal activity and sea conditions.
🌊 Back to port
After watching, the boat heads back to Mirissa port. On the way back, you can rest, have a snack and enjoy views of the Indian Ocean. Then we arrange transfer back to your hotel.

Good afternoon, I forgot to write right away: thank you so much for organizing the tour. Our guide Jojo Oshan was wonderful, we loved everything, we were shown everything that was planned, in a very friendly and informative way. And special thanks to the driver who took us around, a true professional 🙌
What to bring on the tour
📱 Waterproof phone pouch
Protects your phone from sea spray and lets you film whales and dolphins in peace during the trip.
🧥 Light windbreaker
On the open ocean it can be cool and windy even on a hot day, especially when the boat is moving.
🔭 Binoculars
A compact pair of binoculars helps you see whales and dolphins more clearly when they appear at a distance from the boat.
💧 Water bottle
Bring a small bottle of drinking water to stay hydrated during several hours on the open ocean.
🎒 Small backpack
A lightweight backpack keeps your phone, water and personal items together and doesn’t take up extra space on the boat.
Good to know before heading out to sea
Whale watching takes place in the natural environment, so seeing animals depends on the weather, the ocean conditions and their migration. Sightings are not guaranteed.
