Private Whale Safari Tour in Sri Lanka
Key route locations:
- Hotel transfer
- Boat trip into the Indian Ocean
- Chance to see whales and dolphins
- Return to port
The morning starts early: at around 06:30 you arrive at the quiet Mirissa harbour, where your private boat captain is already waiting. A short but important safety briefing follows, after which you settle comfortably on board. As the sun rises over the ocean ☀️, the air starts to change: it feels fresher and softer, and the sea is especially calm at this time. The boat gently pulls away from the shore, and your morning journey towards the largest sea creatures on the planet begins.
Once the boat reaches the open ocean, the search for blue whales, sperm whales and groups of dolphins begins. Dolphins often swim alongside the boat, coming very close 🐬. The route is always flexible, because the captain follows animal activity and tips from other experienced sea captains. The boat may head in different directions until the first whale spouts appear on the horizon. In these moments the ocean seems to come alive, and you feel the full grandeur of wild nature: vast, free and incredibly beautiful.
During the trip, a light breakfast 🥐 is served on your private boat: hot tea or coffee, chilled water and light snacks. Everything helps you relax and enjoy the view of the endless ocean. Breakfast to the sound of waves and a light breeze create a special feeling of calm, when you can rest, watch the horizon or get your camera ready.
When whales appear, the boat stops for a while so you can take great photos 📸. Sometimes the giants of the sea come close enough for you to hear their powerful breaths. This is the perfect moment for photos, short videos and simply for remembering this rare and incredible sight.
After watching whales and dolphins, the boat heads back towards Mirissa. The return is smooth and calm, and you still feel the excitement of meeting the ocean giants. On arrival, the captain helps you step ashore safely. Transfer is paid separately, and we will arrange a convenient option for your accommodation 🚐.

We got back yesterday from a two-day tour with an overnight stay at Elephant bay hotel and a climb of Sigiriya (choose this rock for the climb). It was AMAZING!!!! WONDERFUL!!! The best tour!!! Our guide Denis (Dinesh) is a genius. He kept us laughing the whole way, told us the history of Sri Lanka, answered all our questions, shared lots of interesting facts, and helped with photos and videos! All the locations were chosen very well, and everything felt heartfelt! Special thanks to our driver Shalinda, who drove us carefully and with style! Emotions for a year ahead, maybe for a lifetime! These two days felt like we had travelled for a week through different countries, with different climates, nature and architecture, and all of it in one place on a small island, Sri Lanka.

Absolutely delighted with the ‘Heart of Sri Lanka’ tour! It was a beautifully organized trip. We saw an incredible number of sights and felt immersed in the atmosphere of an amazing country. Special thanks for helping us organize the highlight of our trip, a marriage proposal at the top of Sigiriya. Help choosing the perfect moment and place among these wonders of the world made the day truly unforgettable. A separate highlight was the night at Mountain Heavens hotel. Waking up, stepping onto the balcony and seeing elephants wandering below was wonderful! The best part of the trip was our guide Yasir, the heart of the tour. He spoke with great charm about every sight, knew the best angles for photos and anticipated our wishes. His care, attentiveness and great sense of humour created a truly friendly and comfortable atmosphere. We felt completely safe, as if we were travelling with an old friend. Thank you to Yasir and the whole team! We will definitely recommend you to our friends!

Sharing our impressions on the way home from the wonderful two-day ‘Heart of Sri Lanka’ tour! The earlier reviews already say everything about the tour itself, so we would like to describe the impressions we got thanks to our guide Yasir and driver Usama. A word about the road: the car was comfortable and new, and the air conditioning saved us the whole way. Despite the winding mountain roads, the driver followed all the traffic rules, like a European driver. But we are especially grateful to Yasir. He helped us with every little question throughout the trip. He is a very caring and attentive person. When we were about to be talked into buying something expensive, he took us to another place where the same thing was sold more cheaply. At the tea factory, during the tasting, they planned to give us only one type of tea. Yasir stood up for us, and in the end we tried all the varieties. On the way he showed us many inexpensive places where we could get tasty food and fruit. Yasir also turned out to be a very interesting person. For two days we chatted about the culture of his country and compared it with ours. His English is excellent, he is well read and multilingual. He even gets the memes 😊 To our surprise, Yasir varied our programme. Towards the end of the second day we visited a village where we were shown traditional village life and customs, and we were fed traditional food and sweets. We were even allowed to crack a coconut 🥥 And it would be a shame not to mention that Yasir is a professional photographer. The photos you see in this message are his work. We are now pulling up to our villa to rest from such a full and emotional programme. Many thanks to the organizers, Yasir, Usama and the local people of Sri Lanka!
