Its gardens, Mirror Wall, paintings of heavenly nymphs and the remains of a grand palace take you back into its great history. Then comes the wildlife of Minneriya National Park, where huge elephants gather at the water holes, a sight that thrills and delights.

Day four is a deep dive into the everyday life and customs of ordinary Sri Lankans. First you travel to the small village of Hiriwadunna, riding in an ox cart and paddling across the clear waters of the lake in a light boat. Here you learn about village life, enjoy home-cooked food and learn to make national dishes with local cooks. Then you visit a spice garden, where flowering plants release their unique aromas and share their healing properties.

Early in the morning, after breakfast, you head to Nuwara Eliya, a green land of tea fields and misty hills. The sun rises slowly, and you wind along winding paths between neat rows of tea bushes. The first stop is a tour of the tea factory, where you learn the secret behind the fine taste of famous Ceylon tea. Later, you stroll through the tea bushes, taking in peaceful views and taking photos against a backdrop of mountains and waterfalls.

The next morning, sunrise comes with breakfast again, and soon you are at the station, ready for an unforgettable train journey. A scenic route through Sri Lanka: sparkling streams, green hills, tea plantations and graceful viaducts pass by the carriage window. Once you reach Ella, you change to a bus and head south to the Indian Ocean coast, to the cozy, welcoming village of Ahungalla. Your new hotel invites you to enjoy the calm of the sea breeze and warm sand, promising pleasant evenings.

Now it is time to slow down and enjoy some quiet reflection. Driving through the narrow streets of the Old Dutch Fort in Galle, you enter a place where every street breathes history. Old bricks, weathered lanterns and salty sea wind recall old ships and distant adventures. Taking in the sea air, you head out onto the quiet Madu River, gliding through canals and mangrove tunnels. At the end of the day, at a farm in Kosgoda, tiny turtles trustingly nestle into your palms, a reminder of caring for nature.

The plan for day eight is relaxation: walk barefoot on soft sand, read a book in the shade of a coconut palm, and sip fresh fruit juice or a cool coconut. You can treat yourself to anything you like: yoga on the beach, a lawn massage or a slow walk along the shoreline. Life moves at an easy, calm and happy pace.

The last day arrives quickly. The morning starts as usual with a light breakfast on the veranda overlooking the ocean. As the sun rises, you leave the guesthouse, taking with you a piece of the island's warmth and smiles. A light sea breeze waves you off as the car takes you to the airport. A few hours later, your plane takes off, carrying memories of beautiful days on this blessed island. Your heart is full of joy, because now you have a little piece of Sri Lanka inside you.
